CORRECTIONAL STAFF COLLEGE VISITS POLICE TRAINING COLLEGE FOR BENCHMARKING.

In a move aimed at enhancing coordination and knowledge exchange, the Zambia Correctional Staff College visited the Zambia Police Training College after a long period of limited interaction between the two institutions.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential areas of collaboration, human resource development frameworks, and mutual support to enhance the skills and effectiveness of training for Zambia’s principal law enforcement agency and the Correctional Service. The meeting was held today, Tuesday, 11th March 2025.
The meeting was opened by the Zambia Police Training College, Division Commander, Mr. Mubita Nawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), who welcomed the Correctional Staff.
He emphasised the importance of fostering a stronger partnership between the two institutions, which are integral to the country’s justice system.
“Strengthening collaboration between our institutions is not just beneficial, it is essential for ensuring a holistic approach to law enforcement and corrections,” Mr. Nawa stated.
Leading the delegation from the Zambia Correctional Service Staff College in Kabwe was Commanding Officer Mr. Mitimingi Mulenga, Deputy Commissioner of the Zambia Correctional Service.
He highlighted the importance of the benchmarking exercise, which aligns with the Correctional Service’s efforts to provide quality rehabilitation and reintegration programs for inmates.
“Our role has evolved from being purely punitive to a correctional approach in line with international best practices. This transition requires equipping our staff with modern skills and knowledge,” Mr. Mulenga explained.
He also expressed gratitude to the Zambia Police Service High Command for facilitating and honoring their visit.
Key discussion areas included training curricula and joint human resource development initiatives. The Zambia Police Training College offers a comprehensive program that equips police officers with the skills needed to enforce the law and ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Correctional Staff College focuses on the rehabilitation, management, and reintegration of offenders. A critical question raised during the meeting was how the two institutions could harmonize their training modules to ensure that both sectors are equipped with complementary skills.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Zambia Police Training College and the Zambia Correctional Staff College. Both institutions recognize the importance of working together to enhance their respective roles in maintaining peace, order, and justice in the country.
